Bavuma Reaches 10,000 First-Class Runs
Averaging over 38 in first-class cricket, the South African skipper reached the milestone after scoring 21 runs in the first session of Day 2 play in the WTC Finals. The skipper has been playing first-class cricket since 2008, and it took him 296 innings to complete his milestone of 10,000 runs.
Temba Bavuma, who’s known for his calm, composed, and calculative nature, made his international debut for South Africa in 2014. Since then, he has played 64 matches and scored over 3,600 runs with 4 centuries and 24 fifties.

Temba Bavuma’s gritty knock in the WTC Finals 2025 saved South Africa from a Day 1 collapse. He came in after his team lost 3 wickets and stood there like a rock. He got off the mark to a huge ovation from the Lord’s crowd, as it took him 31 balls to score his first run. On Day 1, Bavuma was not ready to risk any shots and tried to stay at the crease as long as possible. At the end of Day 1, Bavuma had scored 3 (37).

On Day 2, it was a different Bavuma the leader who stood firm and played with intent, keeping the scoreboard ticking. In his knock of 36 (84), he played some sublime shots, including a cover drive, and pulled Pat Cummins for a huge six that was indeed one of the best moments of the match. His intent-filled resistance in the first session helped the Proteas build, but it was the Aussie skipper who eventually dismissed the Proteas captain, turning the course of the innings as South Africa were bundled out for 138 runs, with Australia taking a 74-run lead in the first innings.
Australia Edge Ahead with 200-Run Lead, Three Wickets in Hand
Currently, the match is evenly poised as South Africa needs three wickets to end the Australian innings. However, Mitchell Starc and Alex Carey are forming a strong partnership to rescue Australia, who currently lead by 200 runs with 15 overs left in the day’s play.
