WTC Final 2025: Kagiso Rabada Overtakes Jacques Kallis In Elite List With Two Wickets in Opening Spell On Day 1

Kagiso Rabada took two wickets in the first session.

Kagiso Rabada helped South Africa draw first blood with two wickets in the first session on the opening day of the WTC final at Lord's. Australia lost four wickets in total as South Africa ended the session as the happiest team.

Australia lost four wickets for just 67 runs at Lunch after just over 23 overs bowled in the first session of play. Rabada first dismissed Usman Khawaja for a duck in the seventh over of their innings as David Bedingham took a fabulous catch at slips.

His next wicket was that of Cameron Green who was promoted to bat at number three in the final. He edged one straight to Aiden Markram at second slip. The two other wickets were taken by Marco Jansen with the tall left-armer dismissing Travis Head (11 runs off 13 balls).

Kagiso Rabada Goes Past 50 Test Wickets vs Australia

Since then, Steve Smith has held fort at one end with an unbeaten half-century. At the other end, Beu Webster has taken the game to the South Africans who have missed a few chances in the second session.

Kagiso Rabada went past the former South African legendary all-rounder Jaques Kallis taking his tally to 51 Tets wickets against Australia. Kallis sits last in the ranks with 50 wickets against the Aussies. The tally for the most wickets by a South African pacer against Australia is led by Dale Steyn with 70 wickets against the Aussies.

Rabada's early wickets have put South Africa in the driver's seat early in the Test match. Australia were under the pump in the first session. Now Smith and Webster have added 76 runs in over 100 deliveries since coming together at the start of the second session.

Rabada has been used sparingly since his opening burst in which he took two wickets. He will need to make a comeback and dismiss Steve Smith who has been batting well in the final so far.
