India’s batters showed tremendous resistance on day 5 of the Manchester Test as the Test match ended in a draw, keeping India’s hopes alive in the process.
The day was started by KL Rahul (90 runs off 230 balls) Shubman Gill (103 runs off 238 balls) who continued their overnight stand and took it to 188 runs for the third wicket. India were lost two warly wickest without a run on the board when Gill joined hands with Rahul.
Rahul was dismssed by Ben Stokes and soon after Chris Woakes accounted for Shubman Gill’s wicket. When Gill was dismissed, India was on 222 runs. Gill scored his ninth Test century and his fourth of this series.

Jadeja-Sundar Stand Tall For India
After the loss of Gill’s wicket Ravindra Jadeja (107* runs off 188 deliveries) and Washington Sundar (101* runs off 206 deliveries added an unbeaten stand of 203 runs and frustrated the England bowlers in the process.
Since losing the wickets of Rahul and Gill in the first session of the day’s play, Sundar and Jadeja batted unscathed for the remainder of the day. Ben Stokes tried all his might and his brain worked overtime to dislodge the partnership but none of the England bowlers could break their defiance. It was an example of concentration and technique which was on display by Jadeja and Sundar. Washington Sundar was sent at number six with Rishabh Pant unavailable to bat and he made his chance count by scoring his maiden Test ton.
Barring a few hits and misses, it was a chanceless partnership from the duo keeping the England bowlers at bay. It was only the second instance in Indian cricket when number four, five and six scored centuries in the same Test match.
Purely in terms of batting genius, this was one of the best Test matches for the Indian batters given what was ahead of them when Gill and Rahul started the partnership. Trailing by 186 runs, India were 0/2 and the middle and lower-order helped India to get to 425 runs for four wickets and eventually leading England in the second innings.
