From Harshit Rana to Varun Chakravarthy - Players who got promoted to maiden BCCI central contract

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally announced the central contracts of the players for the 2024-25 season. Compared to last year's list, there are quite a few additions to this year's list. A total of 34 players have been selected for the BCCI Central Contract List for the 2024-25 season.

Young players who made their debut for the Indian Cricket Team across various formats of the game have now been formally given their BCCI contracts. Meanwhile, there is only one player who has been promoted from last year's list.

There have been quite a few promotions in this year's BCCI Central Contract List. The two most prominent names are those of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer. The duo was snubbed off their contracts last season for failing to play domestic cricket. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant got a promotion from Grade B to Grade A.

Which players made it for the first time?

The usual suspects who made their debuts over the past year have their names on the list. These include the likes of Sarfaraz Khan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Abhishek Sharma. As for the bowlers, Akash Deep, Varun Chakravarthy, and Harshit Rana too got their contracts.

Sarfaraz Khan made his debut in the IND vs ENG Test series and has been a common name for India in the red-ball format. While he didn't get any chance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), the Mumbai batter remains a part of the Test setup. After making a name for himself in IPL 2024, Nitish Kumar Reddy got his national team call-up. He made his T20I debut against Bangladesh and then made his Test debut in the BGT.

Abhishek Sharma, too, was impressive in IPL 2024, and the southpaw got his T20I debut against Zimbabwe. Bengal pacer, Akash Deep too made his Test debut in the IND vs ENG series and is a regular in the red-ball format.

Varun Chakravarthy revived his career with some spectacular performances. He was called in for the IND vs ENG white ball series and got his place in the ICT squad with his impressive performances. Young gun Harshit Rana, too, was called upon after winning IPL 2024. He made his Test debut in BGT, followed by T20I and ODI debuts in the IND vs ENG White Ball series.
