India ODI captain Rohit Sharma shared a funny toss incident from the match versus Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit recalled how he got momentarily distracted by Ravi Shastri’s energy during the toss and forgot he had the coin. The moment even had Pakistan captain Babar Azam laughing.
The incident occurred before the start of group stage match between India and Pakistan at the Nassau County Stadium International Cricket Stadium in New York. Both captains were out in the middle for the toss.
As Shastri brought his trademark enthusiasm to the occasion, Rohit Sharma found himself enjoying the theatrics. In that moment of distraction, he forgot he was holding the coin and caused a short delay in proceedings. Even Babar Azam could not help but burst into laughter.

While speaking to JioHotstar in a recent interview, Rohit described the toss moment in his typical laid-back style, showing just how much he enjoyed the occasion.
He explained how the energy on the field, especially from Shastri, caught him off guard and he forgot for a moment that he had the coin needed for the toss.
"Look at Ravi Shastri, I’m enjoying that. In the middle of everything, Ravi Shastri’s energy, I forgot that the coin was with me. Even Babar Azam was laughing. In the blue, it’s Rohit Sharma, who’s ready to punch. In the green Babar’s ready to counter punch, it was all fun,” Rohit said as quoted to JioHotstar.

Talking about the match, batting first, India were bundled out for just 119 on a tricky pitch after Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl. However, Jasprit Bumrah’s spell of 3/14 destroyed Pakistan. India bowled out the opposition for just 113 to win a nail-biter by six runs.
Maintaining their unbeaten run, India later defeated South Africa in the final and lifted their first ICC trophy since 2013.
Less than a year later, India added another ICC trophy to their cabinet. They won the 2025 Champions Trophy under Rohit’s leadership.
